“Air-Sea Rescue” for
Land’s End, Cornwall.

The team at RMA Ltd were no strangers to Lands End. Many of its founders worked on the Original “Last Labyrinth” show back in 1987 when it was conceived and built and all but one worked on the subsequent “Moghar the sea monster” show in the basement.

In 1998, RMA Ltd was invited by the management of Land’s End to come up with a scheme that could be installed within the basement at Land’s End. “Moghar the sea monster” was fed up with terrorising people and decided to become a dragon on the other side of the English Channel, so a fitting replacement was needed.

Land’s End had always had a very special relationship with the local RNLI lifeboat station and crew, so it seemed a good idea to portray a typical sea rescue as part of the new show.

Ideas came thick and fast, as they do when the creative juices start running. Within days the RMA team had formulated a full story-board for the new show from which an animatic was quickly produced. RMA then successfully negotiated the services of the local RNLI crew, the local coast guard at Falmouth and the Royal Navy Sea King Helicopter crew from Culdrose to stage a full scale Air-Sea rescue operation.

To top that, RMA designed and built a 50 seater fully themed “Motion Theatre” as the vehicle in which to present the new show. The “Motion Theatre” included a large front screen, multiple side screen portholes, full surround sound with sub bass and lighting.

The film shoot took two days to complete with a base crew of approximately 10. Two camera crews were used simultaneously, one on the lifeboat, the other either land based or air based in the Sea King.

The completed show was played firstly to the client (who thought it far exceeded his expectations) and then to the lifeboat and Sea King crews. Their opinion…..”This is as close as it gets to the real thing”. You couldn’t ask for a better reference!

Since that shoot, RMA Ltd have joined the ever increasing masses who look-on in awe at the brave work these crews do, without thought for their own safety, in order to save lives at sea. It is for this reason that the RNLI is the chosen charity of RMA Ltd.
